What We Build

Six services. One standard.

Every deck project starts with the same question: how do you actually want to live out here? From there we tailor materials, layout, and finish details to your home, your budget, and your weekend.

Custom Deck Design

Full-service design starting from a site walk-through. We sketch real options on the spot, model layouts to your home’s grade and sightlines, and recommend materials based on how you’ll actually use the space. Permits, structural engineering, and HOA approvals handled for you.

New Deck Construction

Ground-up builds for new construction and homes without an existing deck. Includes site prep, footings to Maryland frost depth, framing, decking, railings, stairs, and finish work. Single-level, multi-level, wraparound, and rooftop builds across MD & DE.

Composite Decks

Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon composite installations. Capped polymer boards that resist fading, splintering, and rot — backed by manufacturer warranties up to 50 years. Hidden fasteners, color-matched trim, and clean finished edges that look as good in year ten as they do on day one.

Wood Decks

Pressure-treated pine, western red cedar, and tropical hardwoods like ipe and mahogany. Warm, classic, and refinishable. We help you weigh up-front cost against long-term maintenance so you pick the wood that fits both your aesthetic and your appetite for refinishing.

Deck Expansions & Additions

Adding square footage, levels, stairs, pergolas, screened sections, or built-in seating to an existing deck. We tie new framing into old structure properly, match boards and railings where possible, and bring the whole assembly up to current code.

Deck Repairs & Upgrades

Board replacement, railing rebuilds, joist reinforcement, ledger flashing repair, and full refinishing. We also retrofit lighting, outlets, and skirting on existing decks. Free assessments — we’ll tell you honestly whether to repair or rebuild.

Materials That Last

Composite or wood? Here’s the honest tradeoff.

Material choice drives both the look and the lifetime cost of your deck. We install both — and we’ll be straight with you about which one fits your project.

Composite Decking

Engineered polymer boards that look like wood without the upkeep. Best for homeowners who want a "build it and enjoy it" deck with minimal seasonal maintenance.

  • 25–50 year manufacturer warranties
  • No staining or sealing required
  • Resists fade, mold, splinters, and rot
  • Higher up-front cost, lower lifetime cost
  • Best brands: Trex, TimberTech, Fiberon

Wood Decking

Natural wood — warmer character, classic look, refinishable for decades when cared for. Best for homeowners who love the look of real wood and don’t mind seasonal upkeep.

  • Lower up-front cost (pressure-treated)
  • Premium options: cedar, ipe, mahogany
  • Requires seal/stain every 2–3 years
  • Authentic grain and warmth no composite matches
  • Lifespan 15–30+ years with maintenance

Frequently Asked

Deck building, straight answers.

The questions we hear most often from Maryland and Delaware homeowners considering a new or replacement deck.

How long does a typical deck project take to complete?
Most residential deck projects are completed in one to three weeks of on-site work, depending on size, materials, and complexity. Custom designs, multi-level builds, and projects requiring engineered footings or permits will run longer. We give you a firm written schedule before any work begins and update you weekly.
Do I need a permit to build a deck in Maryland or Delaware?
Yes — virtually all attached decks and any deck over 30 inches above grade require a building permit in both Maryland and Delaware. Requirements vary by county and municipality. We handle the entire permit process for our clients, including drawings, inspections, and final sign-off.
What’s the difference between composite and wood decking?
Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech, Fiberon) is engineered to look like wood without the upkeep — no staining, no sealing, and warranties up to 50 years. Wood decking (pressure-treated, cedar, ipe) has lower up-front cost and a warmer natural look but needs to be sealed or stained every 2–3 years. We install both and will walk through the lifetime cost honestly with you.
How much does a new deck cost in Maryland?
Pricing varies widely based on size, materials, height, railings, and site conditions. As a rough guide, pressure-treated decks typically run $30–$50 per square foot installed, while premium composite decks range from $55–$95 per square foot. Multi-level designs, pergolas, lighting, and built-in features add cost. We provide a free, itemized, no-obligation written estimate after a site visit.
How do I maintain a composite deck vs a wood deck?
Composite decks need very little — a wash with mild soap and water once or twice a year keeps them looking new. Wood decks need annual cleaning plus a fresh stain or sealer every 2–3 years to prevent UV damage, cracking, and rot. We can build an annual maintenance plan into your project or come back yearly to handle it for you.
Does a new deck add value to my home?
Yes — Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs Value report consistently shows decks recouping 60–80% of their cost at resale, with composite decks toward the higher end. Beyond resale, a well-designed deck is one of the highest-ROI improvements for everyday quality of life: outdoor dining, entertaining, and family time that simply happens more once you have the space.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. All Building Solutions is fully licensed for residential contracting in Maryland and Delaware, and we carry general liability and workers’ compensation insurance on every job. We’re happy to send certificates of insurance before any project begins.
Do you offer financing for deck projects?
Yes. We partner with home-improvement financing providers that offer 0% promotional periods and longer-term fixed-rate options. We can pre-qualify you in about five minutes during your consultation, with no impact on your credit score. Most clients find financing makes a higher-tier composite build more accessible than they expected.
Will my HOA approve the deck design?
In most cases, yes — and we help. We’ve worked with dozens of HOAs across Baltimore County and the Eastern Shore. As part of your proposal we prepare HOA-ready drawings, material spec sheets, and color samples for submission. If your HOA needs revisions, we handle them at no extra cost.
What warranty do you offer on workmanship?
Every ABS deck comes with a written workmanship warranty on labor and installation. If a board lifts, a fastener fails, or a joist sags due to our installation within the warranty period, we come back and fix it — no fight, no fee. Composite materials carry their own manufacturer warranties (25–50 years for Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon) which we register on your behalf.
Can you work in winter? What about during rainy seasons?
Yes, we work year-round in Maryland and Delaware. Footings can be poured below frost line in winter; framing and decking go up in any dry weather. We pause for active rain or snow events, but most projects continue with minimal weather disruption thanks to careful scheduling and weather forecasting built into our timeline.
What happens if I’m not home during construction?
Most of our work happens outside — we don’t need access to the inside of your home. We send a daily progress photo and end-of-day status update so you always know where things stand. Many clients find their deck transformed when they get home from work each day, with no disruption to their schedule.
